Why does the intimate area darken?
Darkening is the skin’s natural response to chronic irritation: waxing and shaving, friction from weight or sport, tight underwear, sweating and some cosmetic products. Hormones and genetics also play a role. It is not a disease, but many women feel uncomfortable with it.
Laser lightening and rejuvenation
We use the Alma Hybrid fractional laser. First the skin is numbed with a local anaesthetic cream; then the laser places microscopic beams into the skin. These tiny treated columns trigger regeneration in the tissue beneath the skin: new collagen is formed and the skin rebuilds itself from below, while the untouched skin between the columns speeds up healing.
On the vulva this renews the surface of the skin, evens out its tone and improves its texture. The same device has an ultrasound handpiece that helps mesotherapy products penetrate into the skin; when useful, it can be combined with the laser session.
Chemical peeling
A chemical peel removes the darkened upper layer of the skin in a controlled way and stimulates renewal. It is an alternative to the laser; the doctor chooses the method with you.
Sessions
Usually 6–8 sessions; each session lightens the tone a little, and the difference builds up session by session. After each session: no bath or shower for one day and no sun exposure.
Is there a risk?
Rarely, the treated skin can turn slightly darker for a while (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation). It is usually temporary and fades over the following weeks. Avoiding the sun after each session is the most important protection — another reason we prefer the winter months. If it happens, we see you at the next session and adjust the plan.
Vaginal laser treatments (tightening, urinary incontinence, dryness) need a vaginal probe and are done only in Silivri, Istanbul. See also fractional laser in Tirana and cosmetic gynaecology.
