Infertility is defined as the inability to achieve pregnancy after 12 months of regular, unprotected sexual intercourse. For women aged 35 and older, evaluation is recommended after 6 months. Affecting nearly 10–15% of couples worldwide, infertility requires a structured, evidence-based diagnostic approach for both partners to identify contributing factors accurately.

At Saga Clinic, infertility is assessed comprehensively using the latest international standards, including ESHRE-based protocols. Our evaluation integrates hormonal testing, ovarian reserve assessment, ovulation monitoring, uterine and tubal evaluation, and semen analysis—allowing us to develop individualized treatment strategies tailored to each couple.

What Causes Infertility?

Infertility may arise from female factors, male factors, combined factors, or may remain unexplained despite complete evaluation.

Female Factors

  • Ovulation disorders
  • Diminished ovarian reserve
  • Tubal blockage or pelvic adhesions
  • Endometriosis
  • Uterine abnormalities
  • Hormonal disorders (thyroid dysfunction, hyperprolactinemia, PCOS)

Male Factors

  • Low sperm count
  • Reduced motility
  • Abnormal morphology
  • Ejaculatory dysfunction
  • Hormonal or genetic abnormalities

Unexplained Infertility

Around 10–15% of couples have no clear cause even after a full work-up.

When Should Couples Seek Specialist Care?

Couples should consider professional evaluation if:

  • They have tried to conceive for 12 months (or 6 months if the woman is over 35).
  • Menstrual cycles are irregular or absent.
  • Symptoms suggest endometriosis or PCOS.
  • A semen analysis has shown abnormalities.
  • There is a history of pelvic infection, surgery, or miscarriage.

Early evaluation improves success rates and allows faster, personalized treatment planning.
