Anal Warts: Symptoms, Causes and Laser Treatment in Tirana

Anal warts are growths around the anus or inside the anal canal caused by HPV. They are not dangerous in themselves, but they spread, they can grow into the anal canal and they are often mistaken for hemorrhoids.

At Saga Clinic in Tirana, Asst. Prof. Eser Ağar, MD treats anal warts with laser: a few warts under local anesthesia, extensive or clustered warts under general anesthesia. All treatment is done at Saga Clinic.

Symptoms

Itching, bleeding, discharge and a feeling of moisture around the anus. The warts can be raised or flat.

They usually appear 1–6 months after infection. Left untreated, they can grow and spread into the anal canal.

Why Do Anal Warts Appear?

HPV enters through micro-tears in the skin. Chronic constipation, anal fissures, removing hair with a razor or depilatory cream, anal intercourse and any irritation in the area can cause these tears.

Anal intercourse is not required. In people with genital HPV infection, the infection can spread to the anal area.

Anal Warts or Hemorrhoids?

They are easily confused. Anal warts are sometimes taken for hemorrhoids and left untreated. Any new bump around the anus should be examined.

Treatment at Saga Clinic

  • A few warts: fractional CO2 laser under local anesthesia.
  • Extensive or clustered warts: laser under general anesthesia, also at Saga Clinic.
  • The root tissue of the wart has to be destroyed thoroughly. Fractional CO2 laser does this effectively and has a lower recurrence rate than other methods.
  • Identifying the HPV type matters: high-risk types can increase the risk of anal cancer.

Why Not Creams, Cryotherapy or Cautery?

Creams are not suitable for the anal area: they can cause severe irritation and ulceration. We do not use cryotherapy or cautery.

After Treatment

The treated skin usually closes in 10–12 days, depending on your healing capacity. Pain after treatment is uncommon and can be prevented with painkiller cream and tablets.

Price

The price depends on the number and location of the warts. Laser removal is 2,500 Lekë per lesion for 1–10 lesions and 1,800 Lekë per lesion for 11 or more (see our prices page). If general anesthesia is needed, there is an additional fee of 500 €. Our prices are not secret: write to us on WhatsApp for price information.
