Why Genital Warts Must Be Treated Early

Genital warts:

1. Laser Treatment (Most Effective & Most Precise)

Our primary treatment method.

Laser is the gold standard for genital wart removal due to:

  • Extremely high precision
  • Minimal bleeding
  • Very low risk of scarring
  • Maximum protection of healthy tissue
  • Rapid healing
  • Low recurrence rate
  • Ability to reach the wart’s root effectively

Laser is ideal for:

  • Multiple or clustered warts
  • Flat lesions
  • Recurrent lesions
  • Sensitive genital areas

2. Radiofrequency (RF) – Second Best Option

RF is preferred when laser is not possible or for certain deeper lesions.

Advantages:

  • Strong coagulation
  • Good for thick or broad-based warts
  • Controlled tissue removal
  • Low recurrence when used correctly
  • Faster healing than cautery and cryotherapy

RF is the second-line choice after laser and is highly effective.

3. Cautery (Electrocautery) – Limited Use, Not Preferred

Electrocautery removes warts using electric heat, but it has significant disadvantages:

  • Electrical current spreads unpredictably, increasing the chance of damaging healthy tissue
  • Higher risk of post-treatment scarring
  • Often causes more postoperative pain
  • Healing time tends to be longer
  • Less control compared to laser or RF

Because of these issues, cautery is not a first-line method at Saga Clinic and only used in carefully selected cases.

4. Cryotherapy (Freezing) – Least Preferred

Cryotherapy uses liquid nitrogen to freeze warts.
However, for genital HPV lesions, it is the least effective method and rarely recommended.

Reasons cryotherapy is not preferred:

  • Usually requires multiple sessions
  • Freezing does not penetrate deeply, making it difficult to reach the wart’s root
  • Higher risk of recurrence
  • Can cause uneven skin texture
  • Precision is poor, especially in sensitive genital tissue

Because of its high recurrence and low precision, cryotherapy is used very selectively.

Anesthesia Options

Wart treatment at Saga Clinic is performed with:

  • Local anesthesia for small or few lesions
  • Sedation anesthesia for large, sensitive, or multiple lesions

Procedures are painless and conducted in a sterile, modern environment.

Healing and Recovery

Most patients recover quickly:

  • Mild redness for 1–2 days
  • Light sensitivity in the area
  • Avoid sexual intercourse for 5–7 days
  • Avoid shaving the area until healing is complete
  • Normal activities can resume the same day

Laser and RF have the fastest healing profile.

Preventing Recurrence

To minimize recurrence risk:

  • Boost immunity (sleep, stress reduction, nutrition)
  • Avoid smoking
  • Treat all visible lesions thoroughly
  • Complete HPV vaccination
  • Consider partner testing if reinfection is likely
  • Avoid shaving active lesions
  • Follow recommended check-up schedule
